TAILOR – MEN'S, WOMEN'S AND DRESS
HIGHER VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
PROGRAMME 600 CREDITS
A modern handcraft with a bright future ahead
Tailored entails first class-handcraft, and words like bespoke and couture refer to garments of the highest quality, made according to the specific demands and measurements of the customer. Working as a tailor today, it is of utmost importance to offer modern and functional garments suitable for the lifestyle of the conscious human being. Regardless of whether it is a dress or a coat, the cut needs to be relevant and the fit perfect.
New techniques and materials bring new opportunities and to us at Tillskärarakademin in Gothenburg, tailoring has a given role in the future fashion industry.
The programme
In this programme, you will learn both advanced and innovative tailoring. You will develop your sewing technical skills as well as your artistic skills within the profession of tailoring, and train your eye and sense for fit. With the supervision of highly competent teachers, you will dare to challenge and stretch the frames of the tailoring art, and learn how to transform your creative ideas into tailored garments of the highest quality.
The programme includes a 10 weeks long internship (LIA), which is an important part of your studies.
Upon completion of the programme, you will be eligible to take an apprenticeship exam in accordance with the regulations of the “Skrädderiförbund of Sweden” for men’s-, women’s- and dress tailoring.
Upon completion of my studies
Once you have graduated from the Tailoring-programme, you will master both classical tailoring as well as the more experimental kind. There is a demand for tailors both within the fashion industry and at studio – and alteration tailors.
Why should I train to become a tailor?
Working as a tailor is a great way to create your own brand. Consumers of today are becoming increasingly aware of the quality, sustainability and production of garments. They want to be unique in their expression or wear garments with the perfect fit. If you want to go for a creative profession of the future and work towards long-life sustainability with handcraft as your tool, tailoring might be the profession for you.
